Lee's lost love/child and his infatuation with the prostitute and her daughter really annoyed/angered me (mainly because of it coming out of nowhere), but I'll say this: At least the prostitute wasn't played by Bai Ling! :)

Re: Battlestar Galactica: Epiphanies

I remember not really caring for the story line of Roslin and Adar's affair. I think you've told me before that it was Mary McDonnell's idea, but that doesn't make me like it anymore. :)

Can't wait to see your thoughts on "Black Market."

Re: Battlestar Galactica: Resurrection Ship, Part Two

A great reminder of a wonderful episode.

Good job.

It's Lee's idealism that made me really like that character a lot, but of course, it brings him faults, too. But it's just proof that he's nicely written, for what will sometimes be a strong character trait in some aspects of life will be a drawback in others.

Re: “Planet of the Apes” (1968)

Seeing it when it came out would involve a simple memory erasure and a bit of time travel, two processes that science fiction teaches us is entirely possible. ;)

Never saw the original PotA. Toyed with the idea briefly after seeing the remake (though I also though the remake was pathetic), but now I'll probably just stay away. ... unless of course, we can figure out that memory erasue/time travel thing.

Re: Best of the ‘Westerns’

Sorry to disappoint you, but "The Searchers" was lame.

Lame.

Re: Best of the ‘Westerns’

Ah, some good choices, but you forgot "The Searchers". I know you are aware of it, you gave me a copy.

Re: Best of the ‘Westerns’

Of this list (including the two dishonorable mentions), I've only seen "Dances with Wolves," which, back when I saw it (which was quite a long time ago), I thought it was way too long but still good.

I guess the reason I've missed most of these is because I don't seek out Westerns. You won't be getting counter-arguments to your distaste of Westerns from me. I understand.

Re: Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries

Ah, what dedication to a TV show! ;) I understand, of course, such is my love for "Lost."

Is it 2010 yet?

Re: Nowhere in Africa

Advice noted. "Out of Africa" added to my queue; Streep is a good selling point, especially since having recently seen her in "Doubt." And I'll skip this one; too many movies, not enough time.

Re: Phoebe in Wonderland

I've put this on my Netflix queue. I had never really heard anything about it, just the name, but your review makes me interested. We'll see how I like it soon enough.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Well, that system worked like gangbusters for "Lord of the Rings," so I can't blame them for going that route.

However, the first part will get seriously knocked down in points if the ending is a cliffhanger just for the sake of a cliffhanger.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

"The Half-Blood Prince" was a pretty good mix of darkness and humor, I thought. Looking forward to "Deathly Hallows" even if they are splitting it up over two years!

Re: Aliens!

testing...

Re: Aliens!

I saw these when I was much younger (and, on the same day, I believe) and really enjoyed them both, though "Aliens" was far superior in my young mind, because of all the excitement, terror and suspense.

They were really the first "horror" or "thriller"-type movies I'd ever seen, and, as such, they'll always hold a special place in my heart as classics.

Perhaps some of the mystery and suspense wears off after years and with multiple viewings, but my young mind was simply amazed.

I don't even know if I've seen either of them in full since. If so, it's been at least years anyway. Perhaps it's best to preserve my memory of them by not going in for a new viewing.

Re: My Dinner with Andre

I'll probably be skipping this one. I've seen too many films of late that like to skip over that thing called plot and still make the film too long.

It sounds like there might be interesting conversations involved, but hey, I can always have dinner with my own friend(s)!

Re: June gloom double feature

2005's "King Kong" proves that sometimes there's treasures to be found in a heap of mess. And 2005's "War of the Worlds" shows sometimes there's not. I agree with much of your sentiments on both movies.

I, too, saw "King Kong" (2005) the first time as a double feature (only for me, it was the second of the two). I saw "Rent" just prior to it.

The connection? A theme of love plauged by threat of death? Those straws I'm grasping it are just within reach ... I can feel it!

Re: Courage and stupidity in "Year One"

I have yet to see a trailer for "Year One" ... well with the volume, that is. Hopefully, it does evoke some great humor.

"Land of the Lost," however, I think will fall into the category of "plain ol' stupid stupid."
